Hear loss problems and hearing aids are as pervasive as sight issues and reading or correctional glasses. However, unlike eyeglasses which have successfully crossed the borders from medicine to fashion where people gladly sport clear glasses for that chic genius look, hearing aids remain icons of disability. And unlike diamond-encrusted earrings which are gamely shown off the earlobes, these equally expensive minute amplifiers are hidden, covered and camouflaged to avoid notice and attention.
The price tag for each device is determined by three factors, namely, the type of mechanism that makes it work, the specific style of using the device and even the size itself.
Mechanism Of The Device:
How the apparatus works is determined by the type of electronics employed in it. There are three categories of the electrical circuit with which these battery-operated ear appliances operate. The most basic and definitely the cheapest of the three is the Adjustable Analog type. The second is the Programmable Analog which is a mere few notches higher than the former in terms of technological advancement.
The third one and definitely the most expensive are the Programmable Digital gadgets. These prices are expensive not only because it comes with the latest technology but also for the reason that it has features that allow greater freedom to the user in terms of sound amplification and classification between speech, background sound and noise, among others.
Style Parameters:
Style, within the province of hearing aid language refers to the way the equipment is worn. There are four methods of using the device. Most of the older models come with large bodies that are attached behind the outer ear while the speaker is wired inside to enhance the volume of sounds. These are called, well, the BTE (behind the ear) apparatus. Later releases are less conspicuous because there are no appliances that dangle from the ears, instead, they are worn in the ear itself and known as the ITE (in the ear) device. Still much advanced versions are placed inside the ear canal, which are referred to either as ITC (in the canal) or CIC (intra-canal).
Size Consideration:
Whatever kind of circuitry is placed inside, however it looks outside, and wherever it is placed in the ears, the price of hearing aids is also determined in large part by its overall size. The smaller the gadget, the more expensive it is. Models that allow much freedom and space in terms of keeping it away from view and making the user comfortable are much more sought after. And demand is directly proportional with the price of any merchandise.
